Personal Slides
These are personal slides taken by Stew.
Some info from Stew on these.
These shots were for the most part, in Norway. Note that everyone is wearing jackets.
We were in the long finger like bay called a Firth. We were about 300 miles in land and anchored in 300 feet of water. Off to one side that I did not get in the shot was a small mountain and this went way deep. In one of the photos the aircraft looks white. It is a British aircraft, I think a Sunderland and they worked with us a week.
One night shot of the Christmas lights, 1952, also.
That and the last two shots are probably in Norfolk. Note the different type aircraft.
And from the VP-661 history page:
This squadron participated in the first NATO exercise "Mainbrace", operating from the USS Currituck anchored in Trondheim Fiord off Levanger, Norway. Incidentally, the Currituck Operations Officer was our previous C.O., Cdr T. G. Monahan. We were operating PBM-5S2.
Info from George Marshall of VP-661.
