I reported to the USS Currituck, Navigation Division, as an SN from the USS Albermarle in mid 1960 at the Philadelphia Shipyard for recommissioning. Departed the Currituck while at White Beach, Okinawa late 1961 to report to OCS, Newport, RI. While at OCS I was promoted to QM3 (Yes, I am proud of that). My first duty station after OCS was NAVSTA, Kodiak, Alaska as Mess Treasurer for one year followed by US Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, RI with the same duties for two years. After completing US Naval Justice School, Newport, RI one of my collateral duties was Discipline Officer at Quonset Point. Was released from active duty January 1965. While an officer my designation was 1105 (MessManagement). The USS Currituck and its crew are among my fondest memories.
Any shipmates and old friends, contact me at csavana at yahoo.com
Best wishes,

Hello, my name is Delia and I was on quite a few websites in search of the ship my father
was on when he was in the navy. Dad (Luciano Leone) was on the Currituck. I couldn't
believe how much information and pictures were on the site. I am still not finished going through it.
I believe dad served on the Currituck somewhere between 1950-1957. He passed away on March 24th of
this year and is buried at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery (he always said he would be proud to go there).
We went through many photos while planning dad's funeral service and the pictures of him in the navy
brought back memories of when he talked about the navy which he loved so much.
He wanted to attend the reunion but ended up being too ill and could not make it.
He also spoke of a man with the last name Zangara?? I'm not sure of the spelling but the two
of them became good friends in the navy. On the website, there is a picture of the Currituck (in San Juan) 1954.
My father often talked about San Juan (he also spent some time there while in the navy).
The picture was taken by Bill Koonts AT2 VP56 1953-1956.
I am in search of dad's history with the navy. If you would guide me toward any information about
my dad and Mr. Zangara (or where to get information) I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for any help that you can provide.

My Dad, Don Hoener (Donald Carl Hoener) was on the USS Currituck, AV-7 between 1951 and 1955.
My Dad passed away in January of this year, 2006 of a heart attack. I miss him immensely and
would be interested in hearing from anyone that might have been with him during this time.
He talked about his Navy days and I do believe those days meant a great deal to him - probably
more than he ever let us know. I have all of his pictures and two of his books. Thanks.
